βDid you watch the Presidential debate?β
βNo. We were out of the country.β
βYouβre in another country???β
βWell, we were.β
Hello everyone!
What better way to begin our Summer Tour 2024 than spending time with a friend in another country!! And the country was Canada.
Our friend, Alison, was in Vancouver, BC pet-sitting through the company βTrusted Housesittersβ. Want to know something really cool?
Alison is from Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands!
Our Friend Alison
We were introduced to Alison in an online community group we all subscribe to called Location Indie. Community is important no matter who you are or where you reside. Jeff and I especially knew this was important in our remote working nomadic world, where we all had common goals and the ability to help one another conquer those goals. Location Indie was the perfect place to make that happen.
Weβve met at least a dozen of these people in real life now, including Alison. And we wouldnβt trade those friendships for anything. Weβve met regularly albeit remotely since we first subscribed in October of 2022 while in Albania. The personal and professional growth weβve experienced is immeasurable.
Jazz Festival

Since Jeff and I are musicians, it was a bonus to be in Vancouver during their International Jazz Festival where we had the privilege of hearing The Sam Wilson Trio. Sam writes a lot of her music, so it was fun to hear her creative voice. Another bonus; her concert was free.
The festival is a week-long and has many concerts you can attend for free. If you are ever in Vancouver during this event we would highly recommend catching whatever concerts you can. They are sure to be worth your time.
Oh, and the venues add so much because they are located on Granville Island. Granville Island is a great place to explore. Itβs located in the old industrial district along the water.
Many of the old buildings have been transformed into art galleries, music and theater academies, specialty craft shops, as well as food and beverage venues.
And you HAVE TO check out the Granville Island Public Market where there are more freshly made food choices than you can possibly imagine! You MUST try a βLeeβs Donutβ (or two).
Once we finished exploring the island, we hopped on a miniature ferry that took us to the other side where we took a lovely walk along Sunset Beach. Even though it was a bit drizzly now and then, it was a beautiful area to walk. Itβs where we took our picture. And we eventually βbumped intoβ the super fun silly statues.
We only scratched the surface of what to do and see in Vancouver, BC. We definitely hope to return to explore more. And thatβs great because our focus was spending time with our friend, Alison.
Thanks for spending time with us, Alison! God-willing, we will get to meet up again.
Thanks to all of you for Zigzagging along with us at the beginning of Summer Tour 2024!
