Picture this: you have just landed in one of the top 3 countries of your dreams. Your driver has picked you up from the airport and you are weaving through the city streets. You take a sharp turn and the road becomes very narrow and bumpy because you are driving on COBBLESTONE STREETS along the ANCIENT FORTRESS WALLS?! You round the corner and suddenly this view is right in front of you.
How would you feel in that moment?
I know how we felt. We were giddy!
Here we are, one year later, and we still feel the same way. Thessaloniki stole our hearts.
We love this city! So much so that our plans include moving there at some point. But, we will save that story for another time. For now, let me introduce you to some of the wonders we discovered living here last Spring.
First of all, it is so easy to walk everywhere. And we did. Our favorite thing to do was walk down from our apartment along the old fortress walls. When I say old, I mean from the 300s; like 1700 years ago old.
The original walls were built in the 4th century B.C. My mind is still blown by the fact that we walked next to them daily. The view from there is spectacular too.
On our first Sunday, after Church, we walked down along the waterfront where there are many tourist sites to see.
We quickly learned that Sundays are family days. It was so heartwarming to see families out together taking walks, riding bikes, playing in the parks, and of course eating in the many restaurants.
Along the waterfront, we experienced The Umbrellas Sculpture by Zogolopoulis, Agalma Megalou Alexandrou aka Alexander the Great Sculpture, and the famous White Tower of Thessaloniki. Did you know Thessaloniki was named after Alexander the Great’s half-sister?

There is so much more to share about this amazing city! As the title says, this is just the beginning. I look forward to opening up this beautiful place to you over the next few newsletters.
Might need to stroll along Thessaloniki myself ✈️
